Danube ASHRAE Meeting
Belgrade (Serbia), 6 - 8 December 2006

Within the 37th Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning, organized by the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (KGH), a meeting of the ASHRAE Danube Chapter was held in Belgrade. In addition to ASHRAE members from Serbia, Romania, Greece, Hungary, Slovenia and Hungary, the meeting was attended by numerous ASHRAE members - guests of the HVAC&R congress from other countries, as well as ASHRAE President, Mr. Terry Townsend.

We would like to remind our readers that the ASHRAE Danube Chapter was established on 8th April 2005 at the meeting in Timisoara, after the preparations that had lasted more than a year. The Chapter gathers more than 150 registered ASHRAE members from Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia.

By coincidence, the meeting of the ASHRAE Danube Chapter (or only ADC) was held on 8th December 2006 in the big hall of the SAVA Congress Centre, and it was attended by more than 50 ASHRAE members from several countries and congress participants. The meeting was opened by ADC President , Mr. Florea Chiriac (Romania), who greeted the ASHRAE President, Mr. Terry Townsend from the USA and all the participants. Since all the meetings of the 37th HVAC&R congress were simultaneously translated into English and Serbian, all the participants could fully attend the entire course of the meeting and they had a privilege to be informed, directly by ASHRAE President, of the organization and activities of the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE), whereof the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning is a member.

Mr. Costas Balaras (Greece) spoke about ASHRAE organization in the regions of Europe and the Middle East, while Mr. Ioan Silviu Dobosi, the Secretary of the ASHRAE Danube Chapter, submitted the report on the Chapter's activities in the previous year and presented the programme of activities for 2007.

The principal objectives of ADC include further development of multinational cooperation and exchange of information from the field of HVAC&R through organizing the professional seminars and similar events, then expert exchange between scientific and academic institutions, including the student exchange, participation in ASHRAE research programmes, including technology transfer from these regions to the other regions of the world, as well as promotion of students' participation in ADC activities.

Dr. Marija Todorovic, the Chair of ADC Technology Transfer Committee made a speech on the Tenth International Summer School for Students (more than 20 participants), dedicated to renewable energy sources and computer-based learning and permanent education programme for professionals (e-Learning ), wherein, only this year in Serbia, almost 120 people, mainly students, but also managers from various institutions were involved.

By concluding the meeting, ADC President, Mr. Chiriac emphasized the importance of the following meeting in Timisoara in April 2007, whereat the members of the Chapter's Board of Directors were to be elected.

We would like to remind our readers and ADC members that, according to the bylaws, the organization of ADC is the same as the organization of ASHRAE: the Chapter's President is Florea Chiriac (Romania), the President-Elect is Adrian Retezan (Romania), the Vice-President is Živojin Perišic (Serbia), the Secretary is Ioan Silviu Doboşi (Romania), while the members of the Board of Directors are: Laszlo Banhidi (Hungary), Graţiela Ţârlea (Romania) and Bratislav Blagojevic (Serbia).
