Eduardo Maldonado

Eduardo Maldonado is a Full Professor (Mechanical Engineering) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto since 1998, retired since 2023, and a researcher on the topic of Energy Efficiency in Buildings. He is the author of more than two hundred technical publications, including books, book chapters and articles in international scientific journals.

    Between 2001 and 2004, he coordinated the National Program for Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Portugal and, later, he was the coordinator of the European Concerted Action for the transposition and implementation of the EPBD (CA-EPBD) from 2004 to 2015. During that period, he collaborated with Portuguese Energy Agency (ADENE) in launching the National Building Certification System, especially in the training of Qualified Experts.

    Between 2007 and 2018, he worked with the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) as coordinator for the European R&D programmes FP7 and H2020, and he then became President of the National Innovation Agency (2018-2021).

Currently, he is dedicated to the topic of Building Decarbonization, especially for the existing buildings.

     Prof. Maldonado was among the founders of the ASHRAE Portugal Chapter, where he occupied various positions, including 4 terms as President. While within RAL, he was Alternate and Delegate at various CRCs. After the creation of Region XIV, he served as Regional Delegate (2017-2023) and as Members Council Representative (2023-26). He now serves as DRC (2026-2029).
