Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Andrei Burlacu is the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Building Services, “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, Romania.
He is working at the Department of Building Services Engineering since 2005, when he graduated the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Building Services, “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iaşi, as Chief of Promotion. In 2006 he graduated the Master in Management of Building Services Engineering from the same Faculty. In 2009 he obtained the Ph.D. Diploma in Civil Engineering with the Ph.D. Thesis “THE USE OF HEAT PIPES FOR UNCONVENTIONAL ENERGY FORMS CAPITALIZATION”.
He obtained the Habilitation Degree in Civil Engineering and Building Services domain, at the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi in 2018 with the Habilitation Thesis “CONTRIBUTIONS ON USING HEAT PIPES FOR IMPROVING THE ENERGY PERFOMANCE OF BUILDINGS AND ASSOCIATED BUILDING SERVICES”. Currently he has under his supervision 10 Ph.D. students.
His teaching activity is focused on the HVAC systems and his research activity has been dedicated for more than 20 years in the field of developing innovative sustainable energy efficient systems for improving the energy performance of buildings. He also has an expertise for more than 10 years of professional practice as Energy Auditor for Buildings in Romania.
During his research activity he coordinated 4 Research Grants from The Executive Unit for the Financing of Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI) in Romania and he was involved in other 13 Research Grants as a Research Member in the field of Energy Efficiency of Buildings, Indoor Environmental Quality, Digitalization, Decarbonization of Buildings, Sustainability and Environmental protection.
As a result of his research activity, he obtained 8 Patents and published more than 150 scientific articles.
In parallel with his academic and research activities, he has demonstrated extensive and sustained professional engagement, actively being involved in various professional organizations and associations at both national and international levels pursuing the vision of improving health, comfort, safety and energy efficiency in all buildings and communities. His professional involvement reflects a strong commitment to the advancement of the Building Services Domain, the development and dissemination of technical expertise, and the strengthening of collaboration within the national and international professional community.
Starting from 2011 he is member of the Romanian Association of Building Services Engineers (AIIR), from 2013 member of the Academic Society of Construction “Prof. Anton Șesan” (SACS), from 2015 member of the Romanian Inventors Society (SIR), from 2022 member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) where he becomes President of the Danube Chapter, Region XIV, in the Society Year 2024-2025 and starting from 2023 he is corresponding member of Technology and Research Committee (TRC) in the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations (REHVA).
